Carrathool Shire Council W.G. Parker Memorial Library

Dating back to 1913 residents of Hillston had access to literary facilities in the form of the Hillston Mechanics Institute. The “Carrathool Shire Free Public Library” was opened in 1952 and was housed in the Municipal Chambers in High Street. In 1962 the library was transferred to the Royal Mail Hotel site in High Street, in what was formerly the north wing of the Hotel, the only portion saved in the 1948 fire. In 1978 Council agreed to become a member of the WRCL service. 1983 the library was renamed the W.G. Parker Memorial Library. In 2004 construction was completed on a multipurpose building that incorporates both a Library and Rural Transaction Centre.
